Signs Of Wind Damage On Your Roof

Signs Of Wind Damage To Roof & Shingles

While your roof is designed to withstand the elements, sometimes the storm may be too strong for your roof, leading to damage to your shingles and other important parts of your roof. There are signs to look for when you believe you may have some roof damage. When in doubt, you should always call a professional!

Signs of Wind Damage

Shingles

Significant wind damage can blow the shingles completely off your roof deck. Missing shingles can lead to leaks and other interior water damage. But other damage may not quite be as easy to see. Things like granules are harder to tell but have some tall tale signs. If you see your shingles missing, this is a dead giveaway, but look out for horizontal lines where your granules may have gotten removed. This will show the shingle sealing has been worn off and has deteriorated.

Check the edge of your shingles for any curling or peeling of shingles. Since wind rarely hits your roof uniformly, it is most often damaging the edges of your roof.

Chimney

Does your chimney look a little crooked? Seeing this will tell you you have a problem. If your flashing or seals are broken, this can let water in and lead to bigger problems.

Leaks and Indoor Water Damage

If you are experiencing problems with interior water damage, this will tip you off you should get help right away. Ignoring this can only lead to bigger problems that will cost a lot of money. If you see any discoloration, leaks, wet spots, peeling paint, or anything out of the ordinary dealing with water.. you should get your roof inspected right away.

Branches, Trees, & Debris

These are a bit more obvious, but be sure to look for any branches, rocks, debris, or anything on your roof or near that may have caused some damage. These are the most disastrous as the objects get larger.
